Occurrence locally: Scarce, formerly frequent
preferred habitat: Oak woodland
Description: The wingspan is 45–75 mm. The females are larger than the males and also much paler. The moth flies from May to September depending on the location. The larvae feed on Larix, Betula, Salix and Rubus species, therefore, in spite of its name, it does not feed on Quercus species
